Explore Kentucky’s State Nature Preserves!

Kentucky currently has 60 state nature preserves in every region of the state. They protect a wide range of natural features from northern hardwood forest in the rugged mountains of eastern Kentucky, prairie remnants in west central Kentucky, to cypress swamps in the western reaches of our state. They also include such unique features as delicate seeps, rocky glades and huge cave systems, some of them inhabited by species found nowhere else in the world. Most preserves are open to the public, so you can explore them  yourself or participate in a guided hike.
